DAY 1: Arrival, Concepcion Trails & Twilight River

Navigating to the Lodge

Upon arriving in Puerto Maldonado, you will be warmly welcomed and escorted to the river port. Begin your adventure with a scenic 25-minute boat ride navigating the clay-colored waters of the Madre de Dios River. Upon reaching Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, settle into your stylish stilted wooden cabaña or room on our private eco-reserve. Head to the spectacular palm-thatched Casa Grande dining room for a delicious buffet lunch.

The Concepcion Trails & Twilight Cruise

Start your exploration from the Eco Center, walking along the Concepcion Trails. This immersive introduction to the Amazon basin winds through primary and secondary rainforests built on a former cacao plantation. At dusk, embark on a guided Twilight River boat ride. Witness the enchanting transformation as daytime animals give way to species adapted to the shadows, and see if you can spot caimans lurking on the riverbanks.

DAY 2: Lake Sandoval, Canopy Walkway & Hidden Forest

The Glassy Waters of Lake Sandoval

Join us in the early hours with a buffet breakfast served from 05:30 AM. You will hike a sun-dappled rainforest trail into the protected Tambopata National Reserve. Boarding a dug-out wooden canoe, you will quietly paddle through a stream and glide onto Lake Sandoval. This picture-perfect ox-bow lake is home to the endangered giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, and black caimans. Return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch.

The Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Night Safari

In the afternoon, ascend the exhilarating Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Climb a vertiginous 38-meter (124 ft) tower to access a safe, 344-meter network of seven suspension bridges strung between treetop platforms. Keep an eye out for bright toucans, trogons, monkeys, and sloths. Back at the lodge, venture out on the 'Hidden Forest' excursion armed with flashlights to discover nocturnal species, or opt to book an indulgent therapy at our Nua Spa.

DAY 3: Departure from Hacienda Concepción

Farewell to the Amazon

Enjoy your last morning waking to the magnificent sounds of the rainforest as parakeets chatter away and monkeys swing through the treetops. Following a final breakfast in the Casa Grande, check-out is at 10:00 AM. You will then embark on your motorized wooden boat for the 25-minute return trip along the Madre de Dios River, concluding at the airport for your onward flight.

Essential Recommendations

  • Luggage Restriction: Due to boat space, it is recommended to bring only a duffel bag or small backpack to the lodge. Large suitcases can be securely stored at the Inkaterra office in Puerto Maldonado.
  • Packing Essentials: Bring light, breathable, long-sleeved clothing to protect against mosquitoes. A reliable flashlight/headlamp and strong insect repellent are absolutely mandatory for the night walks.
  • Vaccinations: The Yellow Fever vaccination is highly recommended for all travelers entering the Peruvian Amazon basin.

Essential details for your eco-luxury retreat.

For space and safety reasons on the motorized river canoes, guests are required to pack only the essentials in a small duffel bag or backpack for their jungle stay. Your large, heavy suitcases will be securely stored at the Inkaterra office in Puerto Maldonado and returned to you upon departure.
The extraordinary Treehouse cabin is highly requested, strictly subject to availability, and incurs an additional cost. If you wish to spend a once-in-a-lifetime night suspended in the canopy, please note this in the 'Special Requests' section of the booking form so we can check dates for you.
Superior Rooms are elegantly appointed rooms located within a main building complex. The Private Wooden Cabañas are independent, stilted structures dotted around the eco-reserve. The Cabañas offer significantly more privacy, space, and a deeply immersive feeling of sleeping directly within the rainforest.
